In 1973, Jeffrey Widness had an idea as old as America itself--he would go into business for himself. This hometown boy from northern Minnesota set out to help folks fix up their homes with a company called, simply, Home Menders, Inc.
Jeff took on projects, banking on volume. His goal? Acquire the smaller projects larger construction companies wouldn't make time for. Steadily, the reputation of HMI as a company of exceptional quality and personal attention grew. By building a solid foundation for high quality work with the kind of individual attention people desire and need with their projects, Jeff built his company to the next level.
In 1975, HMI entered the aviation industry as a trusted, efficient, and professional source for high quality work. Building jet bridges, installing crucial ground-to-air navigation systems not just for commercial airports, but also at our nation's military installations gave HMI the growth and reputation it has earned today as one of those rare dynamic companies: one known for its ability to handle projects nationwide and as an experienced partner for contractors, while also maintaining its 40 year old vision of service--keeping clients at the front of the equation with personal, exceptional customer service. We're the kind of company that values a family cookout at the end of a long week. We're the kind of people who stay on the site to do what it takes to get the project done on time, every time, through the rain, through the snow, and through whatever comes our way. We're the kind of people who give back to the place that gave us our start through scholarships for kids' programs and for those in economic need.
Our work is relationship-based. And it has to be. When you're helping to build a community's schools, when you're scaling a steep-grade hill to install a brand new water system for your own city, when you're standing on the ramp at an airport looking up at the planes in the sky relying on the precision of your work, the stakes can't be higher and the work can't be any more rewarding. We value our excellent relationships with contractors.
Our crew is world-class and down-to-earth. Our work is the highest quality you will find. And we're ready to build relationships and more with you. For four decades, now more than ever, HMI is the Bright Choice.
